February 17, 2013

Oh, dang dad, that would be crazy to see Chisholm get dragged. That would be crazy to see but it would be funny after it's all over! Well, I am glad he is okay. It's starting to warm up a little here in Florence.  It's been super windy and rainy here. How was the Reed rodeo? Did you guys take pictures? I wish I could have been there to the open house. I am sure the temple is really pretty!! You are doing a good job on inviting Mark to it. Keep up the good work.
Well, this week flew by and me and my comp got lot done. So we went 20 miles north of Florence to go see a less active. We knocked on the door and this lady answered and we asked if Sister Hunsaker lived here and she said no. We ask how long she lived here and she said a couple of years. We were like okay and we started to leave because we had other things to do. She asked us if we believed in angels and I said ya. She said, "I see them and they tell me stuff." Both me and my comp looked at each other and had a really bad feeling. We started to ask a question and she said she believes in a higher power but thinks god is a man with a cats head, so weird. Then she said she has been praying to know which church to join. I said a young boy was doing the same thing as you and told her about Joseph Smith and I was about to give the 1st vision. She cut my off and started to talk about the arch angel and how he needs to be saved and I was like whoa we need to leave. So we gave her a Book of Mormon and left. We probably won't go back. But other that that crazy lady we taught some really good lessons and we are hoping we will get a baptism next month. But I am pretty sure I will be leaving next transfer as I have been here for 5 1/2 months. It will be sad to leave this area but than again it will be good. So Friday we helped this guy frame his house and we were asking him questions and he was asking us questions. He said he wants to learn more so we are going over to his house later this week to watch the Testaments with him. He is a really nice guy!! Then we taught the gospel of Jesus Christ to Levi and his kids and I taught them the glass bottle and the egg and the matches lesson. They were really into it and it was really good. We are going over to hang out with him today. Well, other than that we have been tracking a bunch trying to find the people.
Hey, Can you tell John to write or email me. I haven't heard from him in a while. Well, I love you and hope you have a wonderful week. Always remember that we are all missionaries and we need to find Jesus' lost sheep.

Feb 10, 2014

Hey Mom and Dad

It's good to hear from you!! That was a crazy spiritual thing that happened to you being stuck in the tree. I am glad you are okay and that Heavenly Father answered your prayers. That would of hurt if you fell down. This past week I have been looking for the positive things instead of the negative ones and it's really helped me out. Last week I didn't want to be on a mission any more. I had no more fire:( But Wednesday our zone got to go to the Temple and I prayed in the Celestial room and I prayed to have the fire like I had when I first came out in 2011. God did answer my prayers because I don't have that desire anymore and I want to finish my mission and endure to the end. I have made it this far so why should I quit now. Well, my story isn't quite like yours but I know God does answer prayers and he doesn't put you through a situation that you can't handle.  I love how each day you learn so much and how it grows your testimony. I am doing good.
It's been really cold and it snowed up here, but now it's just raining. I am glad an investigator got me a really big jacket because I would of froze.  We are still doing service as our Bishop said he would rather us to do serve than tracking.  And I agree with him. We find more people doing service than we do tracking here in Florence.  All of our investigators have come through doing service. Well we went out to Mapleton and did some service for some less actives there. We are building a green house for a load in their ward. Other than that we have been doing good but don't have anyone to teach but that will change here soon.
Well, I am glad everyone had fun at the rodeo. You will have to send me pictures or put them on the blog. Well, I will let you know next week about our gators because we don't have any right now. Well, I am glad you guys are doing good and that you are working at the Temple.
I love you and thank you for everything you do for me. I hope you have a SAFE and exciting week. I will talk to you next week.

Hey Mom,

I love your Spanish. I don't remember any of the Spanish that I learned:( but of well. My new companion is kind of hard to get along with but I am still working on that and looking for the positive thins:) I know that he is very young as he is 18 and that's about it. Well the Hamilton's are doing okay. He is still smoking but is cutting way back!! He only does like 4 a day so that's really good. I know he will quite smoking:) I have been in Florence hot a very long time. I am working on my 5th month. I hope the people here like me:) They are great!! So last week I was struggling really hard. I just wanted to go home. But after I bore my testimony on Sunday I came to the conclusion that I don't want to go home. I made it this far I just got to endure to the end. But it's been rough.
Yes, I remember Sis Reid. She was awesome! That was nice for her to stop by and say hi. You need to drive over to Mark's house and invite them, that's my challenge to you! I know Kylee got married as I saw that on Facebook:) I am glad she did and I hope she is happy:) Take pictures of the Reed Rodeo as I wanna see how that goes! The weather up here has been pretty nice but Sunday and today I an freezing!! It is windy and raining and the high is suppose to be 37 and the low 22 which is un normal here in Florence!!  I feel bad for Vanessa being in that cold weather. I am driving again and I have been driving safe:) So this Wednesday we are going down to the Medford Temple to go through. I am really excited for that but it's about a 4 hour drive:/ Not to excited about the drive but oh well, as long as I get to go in, Someone in the ward gave a name that I can do. That was nice of her to do that!!! hmm other than that we have been trying to find an investigator on our own but no success yet. I know we will find someone soon:) As long as we have the faith.
Oh, just to let you know, I hurt my knee a week ago and it's been hurting lately so tonight I am going to have someone look at it. I hope nothing is wrong with it.
Well, I love you and I hope you have a wonderful week.

Hey Mom and Dad,

It sounds like you had a crazy week:) I bet the temple is beautiful. That's good that there were a lot of people that went to the open house. Maybe they will be interested in the church now:) That's great Karlee had her baby and everything went good :) I saw some pictures on Facebook. He looks like a big boy! I am surprised he didn't come out hairy, haha. Well, I had transfers today and I lost Fakaua and gained Elder White. He is from south west Utah. He has only been out 7 months, kind of young. He is my district leader and is a pretty cool guy! So my week went flying by and we had some good lessons and some great exchanges!! So Sunday we gave Bro Hamilton a blessing to quit smoking. I really believe he will!! It was really spiritual. We also had sports night and invited a ton of people and we had a great turn out!!
Well, thank you for the birthday package and thank you for the wishes. Oh, and yes I get my driving privileges back:) finally:) Well, I will talk to you next week.

Love ya, Elder Reed

Hey Mom and Dad,

It sounds like everyone is doing well and Karlee is having her baby:) Is she scared?? Good for them! That's awesome you're at the temple. Send me lots of pictures of the temple. I didn't know that the gilbert temple is the biggest temple that has been built in the past 17 years. That is super cool. I bet it's so pretty inside:) Up here in Oregon everything is going well. The family we are working with is doing great. The dad said Sunday was his last day to smoke a cigarette. So pray for the Hamilton family! We had a good turn out friday night for sports night. A lot of people came to it! Right now we have been trying to find a new family to teach the gospel to. So hopefully we can find them!! That is awesome Rebecca Arnett got married in the temple! I hope they are doing good!! Um, I don't know what I need for my birthday but I always like ties:) haha and candy. You need to get over and invite Mark and his wife to the temple. Tell Hannah Brown that she will do great on her mission!! That's so exciting that Wes is coming home. I bet he looks great and I bet his family is super excited!! Yea, Keno is in our mission, it's kind of by Eagle Point!
Well, everything is good here. Transfers are on the 27th of this month. I think I am staying here again!! So I have been here for awhile!!! I love this area as there are so many good people here!!:) Well, not sure what else has happened. I hope Karlee has her baby and everything goes well:) I love you and hope you have a good week.

January 13, 2014

Hey Mom and Dad,

It sounds like you had a busy week. That is cool you taught Brittany how to make some branding iron:) I bet her arms were tired. I bet she knows how you feel now! You will have to let me know how Karlee is when she has her baby!!:)This week has been really busy for us!!! This week flew by, I don't know what happened to the week! Me and my comp did a church tour with our gators. You could really feel the spirit when they came into the sacrament room. It was awesome! Friday night we started up a sports night for our gators and members. We had a good turn out as a lot of people came and had lots of fun! We are teaching the Hamilton family. It's going great. We had a picture of a plane that was about to crash so we gave everyone a piece of paper and said to write their last words that your loved ones will read and we would put it in a black box. So they wrote what they were going to say and we collected the paper and ripped them all up and threw them on the ground. We ask them how they felt and they said not good. We said that this is how the prophet's feel in the Book of Mormon because in certain parts in the book of Mormon is says that these are my last words. We bore our testimonies about the Book of Mormon and how it is so important that we read and take care of the scriptures.
Well, I am jealous you get to go through the temple. I am sure that will be a great missionary experience this week. That is sweet you can be a cop at the temple tours and see your old friends!! You will have to take pictures of it and send it to me!! I hope you can play your fiddles as that would be freaked sweet!! I am so thankful for Joseph Smith and our Savior for what they completed. I love you and thank you for everything you do for me. I love you so much and I hope you have a full and exciting week.

January 6, 2014

Hey Mom & Dad,

That is cool that Pres. Young called you yesterday!!! Ya, I bore my testimony on tithing and the atonement because I had a cool experience. I started to cry in it. I don't know why I cry all the time now. I guess the Lord is humbling me. We have been working hard with a less active family, the Hamilton's, and he had a dryer that wouldn't turn on. He has been going through financial times and he didn't know why it wasn't turning on. He went and bought a breaker for it but didn't have time to put it in. Then we came over and he said he found a $100 bill in his pocket. We kept teaching him to always pay his tithing so that same day he went and paid his tithing. That same day we went over and ate lunch with him and I said, "Let's go look at the dryer." So we went and looked at it and he flipped the breaker on and we went inside again to look at the dryer and that stinker thing fired right up and worked like a champ. So that strengthened my testimony on tithing and how if we just keep his commandments the Lord will guarantee us blessings.
This week went by really fast. So Saturday morning we started a sports day where we invite the people we are teaching and less active families and active families to come and play sports in the morning. Last Saturday was the first time we tried it and it was a good turn out. When we are done we share a message. It was cool. We are still dining a lot of service which is good and we are trying to find new people to teach the gospel to. A lady in the ward ask me every time to fix her truck and I will fix it. So now every time someone needs their car fixed I will help them. I am glad dad taught me how to wok on trucks cuz people now days don't even know how to change a belt on their car. It's crazy to me.
Well dad, I am sorry you have the flu. I am right with you though as I am having the flu also. A member told us swine flu is going around in Lane county and that is right where Florence is. But I don't  have that, just the flu.  I am starting to feel better but I still have a nasty cough and stuffy nose. That is scary you didn't get enough oxygen to your brain. That is good you went to the doctor. I am glad you are starting to feel better. Mom, I hope you don't get sick.
Send me a picture of Karlee and tell John to email me. I emailed him but I don't know if he got it. That's super funny about the chickens. Just shoot them and bury them:) I hope Brooke gets moved in and I will pray for everyone to feel better.
Well, I love you guys more than anything and I miss you guys and the family. I hope you have a good week. Oh, and did you read Vanessa's letter, that was really cool.

Love you, Elder Reed
